Abstract

The soap opera, first made in Brazil in 1951, became famous throughout time as one of the most important cultural products of our country’s television. With the analysis of a chosen case, the character “Dante” played by the actor Reynaldo Gianecchini in the Rede Globo soap opera “Sete Pecados” (2007 – 2008), supported by some theory of the mass culture, we try to launch a critical look over this powerful cultural product. But, before, with the intention of offering view of the current Brazilian TV drama, a brief history of the beginning, developing and narrative of the soap opera is presented.
