Abstract

This work presents an analysis of the construction of the hero in relation to the myth of King D. Sebastião. The literary works that corroborate this perception are two dramaturgies by Natália Correia, O Encoberto (1977) and Errors of mine, bad fortune, burning love (1991). Furthermore, the songs from Os Lusíadas (1980) dedicated to the Portuguese king are used. Each of these literary productions demarcates certain characteristics of D. Sebastião, choices guided by each historical context of writing. Thus, a figure as important to the Portuguese nation as D. Sebastião will be reviewed here in parallel with the philosophical analyzes of Eduardo Lourenço (2009) and with the criticism of the hero discussed by Anatol Rosenfeld (1982).
