Abstract

Considering the importance of Machado de Assis for Brazilian literature, in this paper it will be commented the readings that contemporary writers such as Ana Maria Machado, Fernando Sabino, Domício Proença Filho, Moacir Scliar, and Haroldo Maranhão, among others, have done from the work of the writer. As it will be seen, the most frequent targets of this fiction that retakes Machado’s fiction are Machado himself resurrect as character, and his criations from novels Dom Casmurro (1899), this in the first place, and The Posthumous Memoirs of Brás Cubas (1881).
