Abstract

Our essay examines the real function juvenile correctional facilities have in their intervention in infancy and adolescence in trouble with penal law. We try to elucidate the relation, either as continuity, tension or disruption, between what is formally proposed through the resignification of juvenile correctional facilities as social and educative deployments of a closed regime, and the way this is enacted day-to-day in the institution. In this way, we have given an account of The “Bartolomé Mitre7” Juvenile Correctional Facilities located in Buenos Aires City (Argentina), using ethnographic techniques like participant observation and semi-structured interviews, but also documental analysis. Keywords: Social and educative intervention. Juvenile correctional facilities. Discordant motion. Social control agency. Citizen security programs. Infancy and adolescence.
