Abstract

It was until the year 2000 when Mexico managed to move the PRI out of the republics presidency. In spite of the hope that for many citizens meant political rotation, the change was disappointing. The new governing party (PAN) continued with the old practices: corruption, authoritarianism and reinforced neoliberal policies. Under the lack of legitimacy of Felipe Calderon´s government (2006-2012), the emphasize of the excluding economic policies, and social mobilizations of huge popular sectors that demand different rights, economic and political elites are using repression as a social control mechanism. The paper illustrates the repressive rise that has been lived in the country during last the five years, also shows the efforts of different actors to pursue the defense of their human rights. Keywords: Mexico. Atenco. Political transition. Social control. Human rights. Citizen security.
