Abstract

This article aims to analyze the formation and operation of the "Security Forums". They are the result of the policy implemented by the Ministry of Security of the Province of Buenos Aires, whose main lines of action are: situational crime prevention, social prevention and the control and evaluation of police. Through the study that was conducted in 20 forums of different localities of the province of Buenos Aires, this paper discusses the activities undertaken by the forums in relation to situational prevention and social crime prevention. There is a correlation between urban scale and social and productive structure in identifying safety problems and modes of action implemented to its resolution, approaching what Kessler calls "local cultures of safety." In addition, it identifies a tension between security policy explicitly directed towards prevention and many of the proposals and actions developed from the forums. Keywords: Situational prevention. Social prevention. Security forums. Local safety cultures.
