Abstract

The world has been facing the greatest challenge of the 21st century since March 2020, when Educational Institutions in Brazil had to interrupt their classroom activities, adopting productive isolation and remote teaching. In this perspective, we felt compelled to produce this qualitative work, of a bibliographic character, with the objective of drawing reflections on technologies in the teaching of English to deaf students in the Pandemic Era. Data show that the world has been changing and a considerable number of teachers and students are facing some challenges due to it, especially as the school reality had to move to a completely different space. Therefore, the public educational system needed to reinvent itself to make it possible to share knowledge through digital information and communication technology. Bearing that in mind, we described and indicated possible uses for seven apps and extensions which allow deaf students to learn through visual, contextualized activities. In conclusion, we advocate that Brazil must invest in scientific research, in strengthening education systems, in education measures, in continuing teacher education and training, and in the development of educational policies that address the new demands of education.

Doutorando em Ciências da Linguagem pela Universidade Católica e graduado em letras português e inglês (2019) pela mesma instituição, especialista em metodologia do ensino de língua inglesa pela Faculdade de Educação São Luís (2019), mestre em linguística e ensino pela Universidade Federal da Paraíba (2021) e graduando em Letras-LIBRAS pela mesma instituição. Possui experiência com o ensino das línguas inglesa e portuguesa em cursos de idiomas, ensino básico e ensino técnico. Tem experiência na área de letras, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: língua inglesa, bilinguismo, tecnologias digitais da informação e comunicação (TDIC), educação de surdos e aquisição de línguas adicionais pela pessoa surda.
