Valentin Nikolaievitch Voloshinov: documented details of his life and works

Abstract

In this article we report and describe the discoveries of our research at the “Saint Petersburg filial archive of Russian Academy of Sciences” archives, where we worked at the documents of the “Institute for the Comparative History of the Literatures and Languages of the West and East” (ILIAZV), Valentín Nikoláevitch Volóchinov’s place of work from 1925 to 1932. The documental research allowed the knowledge of this author’s academic and personal trajectory in a moment when Volóchinov produced, among others, the book “Marxism and the philosophy of language”. The mains discoveries of our work at the archives are: the strong presence of the marxist theory in several activities at the ILIAZV, Volóchinov’s participation in these activities, Volochinov’s work at the section of literature methodology, the presence of themes of Medvedev’s and Bakhtin’s works in Volochinov’s plans delivered to the ILIAZV, the recognition of Volóchinov’s academic qualities by researchers of the ILIAZV, Volóchinov’s methodology of work, the transformations in the sovietic academic institutions from 1925 to 1932.
