Abstract

Since the 60s, the Demographic Census has revealed a high degree of social inequality in Brazil. The concentration of income, as measured by the Gini index, showed persistently high since then. After the year 2001, we note that the trend of stability is disrupted and the Gini index begins to show a downward trend. Given this scenario, this study aimed to analyze the factors that determine this new situation.
