Abstract

In this article, we analyze the tale “Dois homens”, from Luís Vilela ‘s collection Tremor de terra, in order to identify contemporary subject marks and the functioning of dialogue and silence from a narrator troubled by the silence of two guys sitting at a bar table. Based on issues pertinent to Vilela’s narrative characteristics, we look at the functioning of dialogue and silence in his works. For that, the theoretical contribution of Bakhtin (2018), Paz (2015), Ricoeur (2014), Santiago (1989), Ferreira (2018) and others were fundamental.
