Abstract

Gabriela Mistral, a Chilean professor, writer and intellectual (1889-1957), served as a Chilean consul in Brazil between the 1940s and 1945. This work studies especially her texts known as “Recados” (Notes), trying to understand the author as a narrator, in a Benjaminian sense (1994) - her writings present themselves as amalgam of experiences and, in metaphorical terms, as forms of resistance, since they worked as a way to prolong the life of the author in nostalgia and the displacement of self-exile. It was also through the narrations that Mistral generated bonds with others and committed herself to the production of new generations - in this case, in a symbolic way, as a teacher, intellectual and “homeland accountant”.
