Abstract

The objective of this essay is to unveil the postulates of progressive Western modernity that have been constructed by an individual totally unaware of their predetermined existence and their ontological limitations. It will be literature and, in particular, the Latin American one that is in charge of releasing this split individual through language. The discourse of modernity has tried to implant in the West the notion of reason as something immovable and has neglected, at the same time, the Latin American cultural dialogical heritage that is not governed by modern standards. These cultures have permeated Western thought and enriched it despite the constant denial by the modern project. The Latin American dialogical cultural environment, in particular, has contributed to allowing the different cultural visions to overlap and enrich the García Márquez’s literary world.
