Abstract

The experience of military participation in the Korean War is a crucial issue of Puerto Rico’s Generation of ’ 50, in which José Luis González and Emilio Díaz Valcárcel stand out as the most representative writers. Both published mainly short stories conceiving a certain battle scene and some episodes after the war. We will review the story told by the selected stories, focusing on the existential experience suffered by Puerto Rican soldiers sent to the Korean War under the American flag.
