Abstract

Feminism and Islam seem to be opposite terms in the first instance, however, and since the 90s onwards, several movements have emerged that show that both concepts are not entirely antagonistic. And that in great part these movements are always considered from Western perspectives, hence they are seen to some extent negatively, as they depart from what dictates a standard imposed by the West, from where the Islamic woman is not seen as a subject, but as an object, that is, a subject-object relationship is presented from the West to the East. Within Islamic feminism it is possible to see diverse movements, but most of them point towards the liberation of women, and in general they make use of the Koranic hermeneutics with the objective of a reinterpretation of the sacred texts from a critical gender perspective.
