Abstract

In this study we discuss the formation of personal and gender identity of the subject represented in Gioconda Belli’s book A mulher habitada, from the lines which orient the constitution of the feminine subject, as this subject promotes the rupture with the traditional model and integrates the aspects of personality. Facts concerning the history from the colonization time, when natives were massacred by the Spanish conquerors, and from contemporary time when Somoza’s dictatorial government system oppressed the people from Nicaragua, are also approached. This double vision, spread by the voice of two narrators, allows the sketching of a historic consciousness capable to review the Latin-American reality.
