Abstract

This paper presents the results of the research on the compared social trajectories of the writers José Lins do Rego and Erico Verissimo. With similar social profiles regarding the oligarchic origin, the novelists approach the same way due to the threat of decline of their social positions, as a result of the historical transformations from social structure as a whole. This resulted in different strategies of conversion to other professional activities. Contributed to the success of such conversions a combination of transformations in political and cultural spheres, on one hand, and the possession of social and cultural resources that enabled the transformation of their autobiographical memories in literary material, on the other hand.
