This study aims to analyze, from a comparative approach, the representation of Françoise de Beauvoir, mother of Simone de Beauvoir, in the books Memoirs of a dutiful daughter and A very easy death. For that purpose, we present a brief overview of the dialogism between the Beauvoirian testimonial project and the autobiographical enterprise in order to clarify the position of the analyzed books in Simone de Beauvoir’s artistic and philosophical projects. We also aim to understand the behavioral manifestations of the double present in both texts, considering Beauvoir’s (2009) assertions about motherhood and the alter ego, Freud’s (2019) considerations about mirrorings and the “unheimliche” complex, and Didi-Huberman’s (2010) propositions regarding the relationship between image, form, and loss.
