Abstract

In this article, we seek to analyze the structure of the short story Sylvie (1854) by Gérard de Nerval. We aim to demonstrate that it is, from a structural point of view, a poetic narrative. Using the theory developed by Tadié in The Poetic Narrative, we will observe its structure as an elaborate circular construction, contrasting the short story with linear realistic novels. Our argument will be structured in three parts: firstly, we will analyze the symbolism of the circle; secondly, we will examine the macrostructure of the work; thirdly, we will explore the internal microstructures; finally, we will discuss the loss of the ideal.
