Abstract

The objective of this paper is to read and analyze Flaubert’s novel, Madame Bovary, focusing on the innovations related to the spatial form that later are to be found in the modern novel. The theoretical support used in the discussion are Auerbach’s and Joseph Frank’s analysis and the realist paintings of the second half of the 19th century. Keywords: Flaubert. Realism. Impressionism.
