Brief considerations about "Hamlet ou les suites de la piete filiale" by Jules Laforgue

Abstract

Jules Laforgue, a French symbolist poet, wrote the prose entitled Moralités Légendaires. In this work, Greek and Christian myths and specifi c cultural patrimonies are revisited and depicted as it is the case of “Hamlet ou les suites de la pieté fi liale”. The objective of this paper is to briefl y present the poet and his short narrative to show his parodic, ironic and poetic procedures, and how the poet still keeps his poetic symbolist characteristics even when he writes in prose.
