Abstract

Jules Laforgue was one of the greatest Decadentist/Symbolis poet; his work presents characteristics of these two important literary movements. Laforgue was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, in 1860, and died in 1887, at the early age of twenty-seven. Even so, the poet built a rich literary work. His poems are full of originality, criticism, irony, orality, parody, mood, satire, neologisms and dissonances, and quotations taken from other works and authors; characteristics that prove his literary relevance.
