Guy de Maupassant On Stage: Dramas And Adaptations For The Theatre

Abstract

Guy de Maupassant’s short stories reveal some dramatic techniques which had already been used by him in his first drama texts. Although his plays were just known by a small public, specially at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of 20th century, these plays show aspects of his work that reinforce the effect of the real, the dialogues and the turnabout, which are characteristics of his short narratives. Some of his short stories have been adapted for the theatre, what proves the potential of his text for the stage, its topicality and narrative structures that continue to attract the modern public.
