Abstract

Following Kant, Hegel and Stendhal, Victor Hugo establishes the basis for Romantic Drama in France. The study of Hernani and of Ruy Blas reveals an écriture mediated mostly by the categories of carnivalisation. Thus, Victor Hugo interprets the classic tradition to depart from it and define the future of the forms and values and proposes, in Do Groteco et do sublime, a new canon for his own tradition. Keywords: Romanticism and Liberalism. Carnivalisation. Canon and subversion. Reception and value.
