Abstract

This essay aims to sketch a brief theoretical perspective of the work of Roland Barthes, investigating notions as style, writing, and rhetoric from a confrontation of what he called “angst of banality”, as presented in Essais critiques (1964). It allows the reader to situate the place of literature in his works as well as to understand some of his theoretical-literary choices.
