The reconstitution of the genuine myths for the construction of “Le Livre de la Cité des Dames”

Abstract

The Book of the City of Ladies [Le Livre de la Cité des Dames, 1405], by Christine de Pizan, proposes a resignification of myths. It depicts the creation of a City driven by moral and ethical values, which are lost at the expense of the technified myths that had been created to control part of the population and to establish powers. Therefore, the present paper aims to assess the authoritative strategy that the author used to demystify the beliefs established in the society of the Middle Ages, and retrieve the meanings of the genuine myths that, in the author’s view, could harmonize the ideal space built within her work.
