Abstract

To talk about the French theatre of the 20th century is to consider the avantgarde such as it was expressed by two paradigmatic fi gures of the new theatrical forms: Eugène Ionesco and Antonin Artaud. Theatrical theatre, pure theatre, body theatre, the avant-garde theatre aim to escape from the word’s domain, from the logos empire, to allow ourselves to be dominated only by thoughts, by the gesture, body and by the action.
