Abstract

This article tries to analyze the relevance of Celso Furtado theoretical production in the effort of interpretations Brazilian society’s formation. Although Furtado is considered one of the most important authors of the period of the ‘desenvolvimentismo’ – phase of the most accelerated transition for the industrial urban model in the country –, a lot of his argumentation was extinguished by time, especially the impact of his formulation in the field of the social change theory and in the elaboration of a democratic and national capitalism project. Thus, from the complex amount of Furtado’s intellectual production, this article tries to rescue these two theories, relating them with an interpretation sui generis of the brazilian history.
