Abstract

This article aims to discuss some challenges to be faced by Brazilian society in the search of a more qualified insertion in the world trade. Therefore, it is assumed that a significant transformation is necessary in the country’s productive structure, whose requirements are a strong increase of productivity; the incorporation of new technologies and the rise to higher-value-added stages in the global productive chains and, as a consequence, greater diversification of the export agenda. As a way to reach this type of insertion, the article points out as successful strategies: the new role of Brazil in South American integration, the increase in the general productivity of its economy, particularly in sectors that are essential for obtaining hard currency, and the efficiency of public power.
