Abstract

The article is based on a comparative study about the profile of political-economical elites, in the historical moment among the government of marshal Humberto de Alencar Castelo Branco to the second term of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. We will try to understand aspects of the Brazilian´s political institutions functioning as well as the criteria for the recruitment of its elites. For our analysis we used a conceptual framework formed by classic theme researchers. Also we used vast empirical material collected from the Dicionário Histórico-BiográficoBrasileiro (the Brazilian Historical and Biographical Dictionary, shortened as DHBB) and in the Biblioteca Virtual da Presidência, a virtual library of presidents. With this intersection between quantitative and qualitative data, we will point out the similarities and differences between those governments.
