Abstract
In this interview with Eduardo Mendieta for Logos in 2004, Jürgen Habermas analyses the international scenario one year after the invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq by north-American troops. Habermas defends the legalization of international interventions as a substitute for the moralization of conflicts and the demonization of the opponent in international disputes, which have served as justification for the illegal and aggressive interventions of George Bush’s administration. According to the German philosopher, the jus ad bellum must be replaced by actions aimed at the protection of human rights, where the use of force would be conditioned to adjudications in which all parts involved would receive equal consideration. In order to start such a process, the leadership of the EUA is fundamental. In this regard, it would be necessary to overcome the anti-Americanism now predominant in Europe by means of an alliance between the European opposition and the north-American internal opposition to the unilateral policies of the Bush administration.
