Abstract
The aim of this study is to emphasize Vinícius de Moraes participation in the movie criticism presented in the "carioca" newspaper "A Manhã" in the early forties (1941-1942). It was in this column that Vinícius de Moraes kept alive, from May to June 1942, a debate which aroused Brazil's and specially Rio de Janeiro's deep interest: the debate "silent movies" X "sound movies" Octávio de Faria, Manuel Bandeira, Afonso Anno de Melo Franco, Humberto Mauro, Aníbal Machado, among others, participed in this debate It was on this occasion that the Brazilian movies started to be timidly discussed although not much importance was attachied to it at the terms.
