Abstract

This article analyses the question of Brazilian agrarian capitalism, on the basis of general tendencies of the capitalism development in Brazil as well as the capitalism development in the region of Alta Sorocabana. The article is divided into four parts: the first one raises the questions. In it two ideas are presented in order to be developed: 1) There would be an incapacity of rural capitalism to submit the rural worker to its rule; 2) the landowners would behave not as entrepreneurs but as landowners. In the second part the first idea is discussed on the basis of the Alta Sorocabana reality. The third part develops the second idea based largely on research done in Alta Sorocaba. Finally, the fourth part arrives at some tentative conclusions.
