Abstract
This paper discusses the land settlement in the Northwest region: the extermination of the Caingangues, the expropriation of the small farmers, the transformation of rural workers in "bóias-frias". All these forms of land settlement are viewed as elements in the process of "originarian accumulation'' which took place in the NW of São Paulo and that contributed to the consolidation of capital power in the hands of the great land owners.
