Crisis of socialism and the Communist Party of Brazil, 1988-1992

Abstract

The paper analyses the influence that social and political transformation in Eastern Europe had on the Communist Party of Brazil (PC do B) between 1988 and 1992. The changes of PC do Bin this period can be summed up as follows: for the first time in the party's History it has been made criticism on the political role of Stalin - though the criticism was quite moderate -, the party gave up the theory of the two steps of Brazilian revolution, it made new international alliances with communist parties as well as an approach with other Brazilian left parties.
