Eletrification and industrial growth in the State of São Paulo: 1880-1940

Abstract

This paper analyses the relations among the technical change, space organization and economical dynamics in the evolution of Brazilian economics process. These relations are vareided through the study of the introduction and evolution, of the use of electric power and its effects over the urban development and industrialization. It shows that the effects of that process indicate changes withe specifc tecnological trajetories and structural changes with remarkable effects in the economical system. This paper also analyses the electrification as a contributing element for the alteration of the economical development patterns.
