Citizenship and modernity

Abstract

This paper presents the historical and political process, also seen as dynamic and contradictory, of the deepening and universalization of citizenship in modernity - it is a contradictory process, subject to progress and retreat, because there is an antagonism at the limit between the universalization of citizenship and the mechanisms that exist in the mode of capitalist production.
