Abstract
This article proposes a reflection about the efforts of Fernando de Azevedo for the institutionalization of the sociology in Brazil. It focus his important role in the process of modernization occurred in this Nation during the decades of 1930’s to 1960’s. So, the paper intends to articulate the “text” and the “context” as a method driven, and defines as a hypothesis the institutional trajectory as well the theoretical works of Fernando Azevedo as an useful tool to revise the major explanations about the history of the Social Sciences in Brazil, especially the interpretations that have been accentuated the process of institutionalization of the sociology as a science. This theoretical option means that the date birth of the Social Sciences, for this current, should be the decade of 1960’s. This article, however, intends another approach by focusing the role of Fernando de Azevedo in this process of modernization as well in the area of the Social Science and its history.
