The place of democracy: global civil society and the cosmopolitan citizenship issue

Abstract

The article discusses a traditional theme of political science: the place of democracy, and proposes an assessment of the contemporary debate on the subject, particularly, the assumption that we would be witnessing the birth of a cosmopolitan citizenship based on the development of a transnational network of NGOs, social movements and political activists, that many have been referring as “global civil society” .
