Violence, ideology and estrangement in the era of virtual images

The article discusses the impact of videogames in the contemporary culture and society. It tries to demonstrate that there is a kind of symbiosis between the real physical sensation and the virtual representation in the experiences lived through this games and accessories (glasses, helmets, joysticks), what creates a make-believe of reality that works as a balsam to the feeling of despair. In order to guide the discussion the text approaches two main themes of electronic games - the violence and the hero’s myth - not just because they are appealing and they raise polemic and inquietude particularly among non-players, but especially because they can reveal some particularities of the contemporary sociability.Downloads
