Abstract
The first part of the article reconstructs the ambiguityof the modern science from the work of Pierre Bourdieu. Thesecond part reconstructs the ambiguity of the modern State toBourdieu, as well as the function and the ambiguity of the schoolsystem, as a relatively autonomous field of the State. In general, the articulation between the two understandings suggests waysto clarify a modern “circuit of legitimation”, composed mainly, butnot only, by the national science and the State, with its schoolsystem. This understanding presents itself as one of the ways forthe denaturalization of the legitimation of the contemporary socialinequalities and their inherent class domination.
