Abstract

The knowledge-fragmentation doesn’t nourish the effort in comprehending a phenomenon like Brazilian Neo-Pentecostalism from an analytical framework of the capitalistic expansionary process to periphery. Beginning with a theoretical approach about the expansion and legitimation of modern rationalism in peripheral societies like Brazil, the thesis is developed that the Neo-Pentecostalism’s “narrative industry” must be comprehended as a “new spirit of capitalism” in the peripheral modernity. This thesis articulates, following the weberian approach of the authors like Pierre Bourdieu, the making of the “new spirit of capitalism” with the social class dynamic and the legitimation of the cleavages and lifestyles stemming from the singularity of social inequality in the Westerns-periphery.
