Ambassador Rubens Ricupero, former Secretary General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development – UNCTAD, in an interview to Christina Andrews, talks about the dilemmas facing peripheral countries to fit in the dynamics of international trade. Parting from the actions of UNCTAD and the World Trade Organization – WTO, the ambassador describes the difficulties that peripheral countries endure to turn trade into a development tool. Among other observations, he notes that there is no foundation to sustain the belief that the liberalization of trade of agricultural products would be benefit the least developed countries.
