LETTERS FROM BAHIA: DISCOURSE GENRES AND FOLK LINGUISTICS

In this essay we intend to analyze the letters of readers and editors of the printed newspapers O Progresso and Folha do Norte originally published in the first half of the 20th century in the municipality of Feira de Santana - Bahia. Our entry into the texts will take place from the perspective of Folk Linguistics (Paveau, xxxx and Gonçalves, 2021, Niedzielsky & Preston, 2003) and Discourse Analysis, especially regarding the issue of Speech Genres in form that gave Maingueneau (xxxx, xxxx) to the theme. This essay is, so to speak, a small study of “manifestations of non-specialists in terms of language” (Gonçalves, 2021b, p.611) expressed through a certain topical unit of discourse (Maingueneau, 2015, p. 65).
