The text, a blend of testimony and article, seeks to highlight the role of the course taught by Greimas in Brazil in July 1973, not only as a facilitator for the reception of discursive semiotics but, above all, as the founding gesture of a semiotics school in Brazil. Three main outcomes of the 1973 course were noted: the opportunity to participate in a “Greimas seminar”; the founding of the A. J. Greimas Center for Semiotic Studies; and the establishment of the journal “Significação – Revista Brasileira de Semiótica”, the official publication of the Center.
