This interview with Edward Lopes were part of the “Greimas in Brazil” project, aimed at reconstructing the history of Brazilian semiotics from the perspective of the first generation of semioticians in Brazil, about Greimas’ arrival in the country in 1973 and his work as a lecturer on the “Semiotics of Narrative” course, the founding of the “A. J. Greimas” Center for Semiotic Studies (CESAJG) and the journal Significação, and the role of these researchers in disseminating Greimas’ works through translations of his writings. The conversation with Lopes reveals the academic path that led him to meet Greimas and bring him to Brazil, as well as aspects concerning the interviewee's work as a professor, researcher, founder of a postgraduate program and author of works that contributed to the establishment of this discipline in Brazil.
