ABSTRACT: Three female actors, the sisters Bibiana and Belonísia, and the spiritual entity Santa Rita Pescadeira are protagonists of the novel Crooked Plough (2019), by Itamar Vieira Junior, whose story is set in a farm in the interior of Bahia. In this article we analyze, in the light of the theoretical framework of French semiotics, the path of actor Belonísia, with the aim of understanding his actancial, thematic and pathological roles throughout the narrative. It is intended to stimulate reflection on gender violence that the female actor suffers in his life path, as well as its form of awareness that it is necessary to fight against the patriarchal oppression to which women have been subjected since the beginning of colonization in the country.
