Abstract

The aim of this article is to show how time and space are programmed in the front commissions of Rio de Janeiro's samba schools. The corpus of analysis includes two front commissions from the schools Unidos da Tijuca (2010) and Unidos de Vila Isabel (2019). The theoretical-methodological framework used is French text semiotics.  The results show that the textual programming of the samba school parade is sustained according to the principles of coexistence, which articulates different segments simultaneously in a chain; and interactivity, which acts out of convenience, not because of the exclusivity of one class in relation to the others. The analysis shows two text programming procedures: implicative formulation and reformulation; and recursive acceleration and deceleration. They provoke the effects of voyeur, intelligibility and stasis. Another important result is that the programming is based on the neutralization of time as a function of space, and vice versa, by the heterocategorical clutch.
