Abstract

In this paper, the objectives are to reflect on the scope of the category of semiosphere, which corresponds to the second stage of lotmanianas’ proposals. In this sense, we seek to problematize about this category to review the operations proposed by Iuri Lotman and to deal with other categories that relate to it. Semiosphere is a dialectic and polysemic category that allows analysis of all cultural production, because it can address and explain all semiotic-discursive practices. In addition, the semiosphere there are internal and external borders that explain the changes and cultural dynamics. In short, one of movements more explanatory of semiosphere is from core-periphery, which produces unique and complex processes in a culture’s dynamics. Another aspect considered is the dialectic of memory and forgetting, in which Iuri Lotman stops to discuss about what remains in culture memory and what is forgotten.
