Abstract

The paper aims to briefly discuss some relevant points about income distribution and inequality in the 2000s and mid-2010s. The choice of this cut is explained by the inflection it presents: at the same time that the 2000s presented an improvement of the distribution of income that can be attributed, in part, to the appreciation of wages and the growth of the service sector, there was an increase in the appropriation of national income by the top of the pyramid. The consequences of this inflection became known with the Brazilian economic crisis, starting in 2010, which revealed the real problem of inequality and poor income distribution. To achieve this objective, the research will adopt a two-step methodology. First, some important points of the distribution of Brazilian income and inequality will be shown, according to authors who have focused on the subject. Then, an empirical analysis will be presented with data from the PNAD (Pesquisa Nacional por Amostra de Domicílios) 2015, which will contribute to the assessment of the impacts of social inequalities that affect the Brazilian salary.
