Abstract

Jean Marie Gustave Le Clézio’s writings, today represented by over forty books, develops as an alternate succession of romances, novels, essays, categories, however, that expand into unclassifi able texts, close to short stories, journals, poetry; as part of post modernity, his work is, in fact, in harmony with the tendencies to improvisation, to authenticity, to the refusal of techniques, all of which are part of contemporary art. Thus, unfolding, hybridism of gender, mixture of styles, different forms of intertextuality, as mise en abyme, metalanguage, historical metafi ction, are some of the procedures discussed along all of Le Clezio’s writings, composing, as observed by Onimus (1994), “a world of two faces”: on one hand, the dark side, formed by destructive abstraction, technology, servile organization, cities and the crowd, electricity, consumerism and cruelty; on the other hand, the luminous face, walking through a magical reality witch is constituted by nature, animism, the fi gures of the child, the savage and the outsider. Keywords: French literature. Contemporary narrative. Narrator. Metalanguage. Historic metafiction.
